Project Overview
The client contacted us after seeing one of our ads, mainly interested in our Energy Savings package as their house has a heat pump, and they realised soon after moving into the house that their electricity bill was higher than they originally expected.
After discussing the different services we offer, the client decided to include some sensors for doors and windows in the project to improve the security of the house.
As energy efficiency and savings were the main objectives for the client, we opted for the Energy Savings package, which optimises the energy usage of the house by switching off devices and appliances not being used, and shifts the time of the day when the energy is consumed to make use of the cheaper time windows offered by the Octopus Agile tariff, which adjusts the electricity prices every 30 minutes according to demand and other parameters.
We set up automations to maximise the house’s energy efficiency, running the heat pump for hot water and heating at the time of the day when the electricity is cheaper, and switching off lights, TV and other appliances when they are not needed (for instance when presence is not detected), or even shutting down the whole house during holidays. Our app also informs the client about the current electricity price, and the cheapest hours of the day for their tariff, allowing them to run the dishwasher, washing machine, and other appliances at the most efficient moment every day. We contacted the client some months after finishing this project and they shared with us that they were very happy with our Energy Savings package, as they had been saving between 35% and 44% of their electricity bill every month, and they had estimated they would get back the money they invested in this project in less than two years, thanks to the savings in the electricity bill.
