Project Overview

The client heard about us from one of their friends, and they contacted us by WhatsApp. They wanted to add smart lighting to the house they have been living in for 4 years.

During the first visit to the client’s house, we discussed the devices that would be required for the smart lighting and agreed to add some sensors for the doors and windows as well as motion sensors for added security and comfort.

The main priority was to replace the standard light switches installed in the property with smart light switches that could be controlled from anywhere, without losing the functionality of manual control.

After a quick look at the electrical installation, we were happy to inform the client their lighting installation included neutral on the switches, which allowed them to choose between all the smart light switches available on the market without having to rewire the house, except for one switch where no neutral was present on the switch. Due to the client’s desire to keep costs down, rewiring the switch was not feasible. We therefore selected a similar switch from a different manufacturer that did not require a neutral wire.

As with most of our projects, the client was happy to learn from us that one of the advantages of a smart home is the associated energy savings, and they agreed to include automations to make the house more energy efficient. These included automations to switch off lights and appliances not being used and automatically switch off the whole house while they were away or on holiday.

Our platform also informs the client about the current electricity price, and the cheapest moments of the day for their electricity tariff, allowing them to run the dishwasher, washing machine, and other appliances at the most efficient moment every day. All this resulted in a reduction of 31% of their electricity bill.

To give the client more control over their smart home, we integrated all the devices into a single mobile application and we drew an interactive 3D Floor Plan of their house that they will use to view the status and interact with all their devices from one place, no matter where they are in the world. We also integrated a Ring doorbell, Ring camera, Ring alarm and Ring sensors the client already owned into our platform, along with a smart blind.
